Adult Education at Bon Air Presbyterian Church The Adult Education committee at Bon Air is committed to providing educational opportunities for all adults. Whether you are new to the Christian Faith, or a seasoned veteran, we have opportunities that engage people where they are on their own Faith Journeys. We hope that you will join us every Sunday morning for Sunday school as we grow in faith together. Classes change on a semester basis, and we are intentional about choosing topics that meet the needs of everyone. These classes are usually in a small group setting, and on occasion, we all gather together for inter-generational classes and seminars. Current Classes Feasting on the Word The Feasting on the Word Curriculum adapts adapting the Feasting on the Word commentary approaches to study of one of the lectionary passages in ways suitable for all participants. The Curriculum and the Commentary streams are related this way. What? (Exegetical). Basic information about backgrounds and meanings of biblical passages are essential to understanding. This stream asks “What?” are the important things to know about the contexts, language, and settings of the biblical passage. Where? (Theological) To understand the meanings of passages, we also need to ask “Where?”— Where is God in this passage? Where are God’s will and activities being expressed? Theological questions about where God’s word comes to us in the passage are significant. So What? (Pastoral) The implication of the passage for our Christian lives makes the biblical passage come alive. We ask, “So what?” What does this passage mean to me? What does it mean for my relationship with God and other people? Now What? (Homiletical) Biblical passage shapes our understandings and lives in the church. They connect us with needs in God’s world. So we ask, “Now what?” This prompts us to reflect on how our life and the church’s life can live out what the passage is saying. Genesis 9:8–17 Participants will explore the implications of God’s everlasting covenant with every living creature and all generations. The Thoughtful Christian Common Theological Questions Whether the questions come from those outside our faith, those within our faith, or even ourselves, it is guaranteed that at some point in our faith life we will be asked questions about the theological concepts of our faith. And we don't need to be theological scholars to understand these concepts. Using these studies, participants will even be able to tackle questions like: Who is God? What happens when we sin? Is there life after death? Upcoming Classes Feb 5 Is There Life after Death? Just what does the Christian faith teach us about life beyond death? The world’s philosophies and religions offer a variety of options for us to believe: natural death as the end, immortality of the soul, reincarnation, resurrection of the body, and others. Which of these options best expresses what the Bible says?
