The BAPC Church School
Policy I. Age
Status of Children
A. Nursery
– ages infant to 2 years. At 2 years of age, the
child moves up to the 2 Year Old Class.
B. Ages 3 years and up: Following the
Public Schools guidelines, the age cut off for
children will be September 31. A child will move
up to the next class level in September, thereby
keeping the child with his/her school age peers.
(Example: if a child is in a 3 year old class
and turns 4 in October, the child would remain
in the 3 year old class until the following
September.)
II. Extended Session
A. Preschool
1. Extended Session is a continuation of the
Church School hour for children below first
grade.
2. If a parent desires for a child to attend
Worship, the child may join the Extended Session
following the Children’s Conversation.
B. Elementary
1. Children in first grade and up are encouraged
to attend the entire Worship Service.
2. Children’s worship bulletins are available.
III. Church School
A.
The Church School will meet from 9:30 a.m. to
10:30 a.m.
B. The
classes are taught by adult volunteers with two
or more teachers in each class.
IV. Teen Helpers
A.
Teen helpers are those children in grades 6-12.
B. The
11:00 a.m. nursery and preschool extended
session utilize teen helpers. They may volunteer
one Sunday a month to assist the adult teacher.
V. Curriculum
A.
The church school curriculum is reviewed by a
committee, the Associate Pastor, and/or the
Pastor. Final approval of the curriculum is by
the Session upon recommendation of the Nurture
Division.
B. Any
material to supplement the curriculum for
preschool, elementary, and youth needs the
approval of Nurture Division/Associate Pastor.
Due to the nature of the adult classes and
curriculum, the teachers are asked to use
discretion when bringing in supplementary
materials.
C.
Materials located in the Church Library and the
Resource Room are excellent sources for approved
supplementary use.
