Kid's Kingdom at Bon Air

Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of heaven belongs."  These Words form Matthew's gospel provide a challenge to all Christians, and serve as a beacon to the importance of nurturing children in faith, and including them into the life of the church.  Bon Air is provides for the needs of children, and bringing the gospel to life for children of all ages.

Bon Air utilizes a Workshop Rotation Model to teachthe good news.  Children experience the Bible in innovative and exciting ways that are on their level and provide them with multiple ways to hear, see, touch, taste, and experience education.  The motivation for using the workshop rotation model was developed with your child in mind.

Each month, children experience a new Bible story in many and varied workshops, all designed to strengthen their faith.  From the Arcade, to the Theatre; from the Storyteller's Tent, to the Art Studio; from Music and Movement to Puppetry:  children experience the biblical narrative in ways that captivate their attention, and reinforce what they learn from week to week.

This Month's Rotation

The Widow’s Mite

This story tells us that we must love God and show it as the widow did by giving to the church offering and that we must also love others by looking after the poor, homeless, and needy with our offerings of money, time, and talent.

This is what our memory verse says: love God and love each other.

One day Jesus was sitting in the temple near the offering box and watching people put in their gifts. He noticed that many rich people were giving a lot of money. Finally, a poor widow came up and put in two coins that were worth only a few pennies. Jesus told his disciples to gather around him. Then he said, “ I tell you that this poor widow has put in more than all the others. Everyone else gave what they didn’t need. But she is very poor and gave everything she had. Now she doesn’t have a cent to live on.”

Our key memory verse is - Matthew 22:37-39

“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.”  This is the greatest and first commandment.  And a second is like it: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

What we will learn:

  • Jesus sees and appreciates sacrifices and gifts we make however small.
  • A gift is special when it is a sacrifice.
  • God wants us to give to the church in good times and in bad, whether we are rich or poor.
  • We should give to the church because the church does God’s work.
  • Even a little gift can be important.

Faith Quest workshops:

  1. Creation Station: Make money.
  2. Noah’s Art: Create a collage about people giving to others.
  3. Praising Puppets: Discover what it is to sacrifice and learn that gifts are not always money or presents.
  4. Disciple Drama: Be a rich Pharisee or the poor widow as we reenact the story.
